The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act prohibits debt collectors from calling friends or relatives about a consumer’s debt, especially if you’ve requested they stop contacting you and the calls continue. If the debt collector commits such a violation you could be entitled to up to $1,000, plus actual damages, plus your reasonable attorney fees and court costs paid by the collector.

Our attorneys may be able to help you stop these annoying calls, as we have helped numerous other consumers with the same issue. We can be reached at 888-595-9111 for a free attorney consultation!

My 36 year old nephew is in debt. Collectors have my phone. They call endlessly. I have told them dozens of times I am not him. He does not live with me.
I have been harassed by these people since March 2010. They use simple fake names, like John Smith. They have several people with the same or similar voices when another name is said. No papers will be sent for the collection as I have tried to get them to do this, they want to settle out of court or they will press charges in a local court. They have a false agent call and say that the action will be taken in court or some other threats; he will give a false badge number also. It is also stated that it will be an additional $5000.00 to go to court. They use phone cards to call so that it can come from anywhere that they want, Montana, Wyoming, California, or where ever. I had a collection agency for a loan that I did pay off and they warned me about these guys and I also gave information to them trying to catch these guys. So if they will not give you any paper work or other details beware they are scamming you. You also can check these people out by going through the BBB or FBI. I usually just ignore or take the number down that is given and send it to the attor4ities. If you can help as I do we can get these guys put away. One last thing, they call with an unknown number and when you answer they will not say anything. Next they call with a local number and start their spiel.
